GetJar To Push Android Gaming

Recently GetJar raised $11 million in funding and along with this comes news of their business model being tweaked. Some of the money will be put into expanding the company with new offices and business infrastructure. One of the major changes will be coming in the form of paid applications for Android and, more specifically, a big push for paid game downloads.

PocketGamer got a chance to sit down and talk with the VP of Marketing for GetJar, Patrick Mork, who told PocketGamer about the upcoming change to their business model with the introduction of paid applications and more specifically their push for paid game downloads for Android.

“We’ll introduced payment options by the end of 2010 in terms of Android apps,” Mork explains. “As everyone knows, payment isn’t yet working properly on Android so we’re going to partner with a thirdparty to deliver this.”

“We’re planning to launch a new program specifically for game publishers where we’ll pay them for a limited time to release their content. Game are important enough for us to be prepared to do this,” he reveals.

Yes that is correct, GetJar will pay developers to release their content in their new program to promote games on Android. This is a huge move and a first of any kind with a site paying the developers to release content instead of it strictly being based on sales right away.

“We’re going to be very serious about games for the next three to six months.” – Patrick Mork

While details of how much developers will get paid, when this will actually happen and any other important details are not yet released, it’s safe to say that it’ll be around the same time as their payment system is implemented into GetJar which is slated for the end of 2010.
