ngmoco gets acquired by DeNA – Now biggest mobile social gaming platform

ngmoco is a very popular iOS game developer who recently stated that they would indeed be bringing their games over to the Android platform with We Rule! being the first title slated for release soon. Well up to $400 million dollars later, mobile internet company DeNA has just acquired ngmoco making DeNA the biggest mobile social gaming platform company.

ngmoco shareholders and employees will receive $300 million dollars in cash and securities with up to an addition $100 million dollars for consideration. In other words a lot of people just got a lot of money.

“In ngmoco and its team we see a lot of the same talent and dynamic traction that we have in the Japanese market, making the merger a perfect fit for us,” said Tomoko Namba, founder and CEO, DeNA. “This acquisition cements DeNA’s leadership position in the U.S. We’re building the largest mobile social gaming platform in the world and populating it with incredible games and services.”

According to the press release ngmoco will be responsible for promoting DeNA’s “X-device X-border” strategy and using/developing Mobage, DeNA’s cross-platform gaming SDK, to allow game developers to make games for both iOS and Android for both Western and Japanese customers. That is a pretty big customer base right there. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects ngmoco and their commitment to bringing their games to Android.
