App review: aDownloader

aDownloader is a newly available native torrent client for Android available for newer phones that support the necessary APIs. Does it fare better than other native clients whose developers haven’t updated them in months. Find out more reading the full review after the break.

Included is a search function which links to btjunkie for its .torrent downloads. You can also add them from the SD card if you’ve previously downloaded them from the browser, which can also open the links directly into the application. You can also select from 10 search engines in total, but not at the same time (adjustable in settings).

Over a WiFi connection you can expect up to 1 MB/sec download speeds, an incredible feat for an Android application. Over T-Mobile’s 4G we were getting roughly 350KB/sec, still very impressive for torrenting on the go. The speeds were not only decent, but stable on WiFi and surprisingly stable on 4G/3G where available.

The design of the application is black with white text. Buttons for different sections of the app line the top including Browse, Downloaded, Active, Search, Settings and Quit. We find the dark-green color of the buttons unattractive, but its something the developer can easily change in the future. However, in the settings are available skins for the application which change its look considerably. We find the green theme to be easiest on the eyes.

Overall aDownloader is a great application for those looking for TV, Movies and Music directly on their phones without the use of a PC or even WiFi. We highly recommend aDownloader hands down over all other torrent applications on the Market today.

Did we mention its free to download and use without any advertising?
