The latest 4G LTE smartphone to grace Sprint was announced today at a joint Sprint and HTC event. The HTC EVO 4G LTE will be available during the second quarter of 2012 for $199 on a two-year contract. Pre-orders for this device will start being accepted on May 7. Since we’ll be waiting for a little while for this phone to ship, let’s just go over its details for now.
In some ways, the EVO 4G LTE is Sprint’s version of the HTC One X. However, it’s not officially a “One” device. PC Mag spoke to HTC and Sprint representatives about why this device lacks the “One” branding. Basically, Sprint has built its own brand with the EVO line in the same way Verizon represents Droid smartphones and T-Mobile represents myTouch smartphones. Customers have come to identify EVO with Sprint, so the carrier doesn’t want to alienate customers by ridding itself of the EVO brand. The phone’s specs are still impressive though.

HD Voice is new to Sprint. Its purpose is to enhance voice quality and reduce background noise during calls. Sprint customers also have the advantage of getting unlimited 4G LTE data service (for now at least).
