Brad Gearon’s Terraria-style game gets a new official name, possible release date

While the developers of the hit indie game Terraria did not give permission to Brad Gearon to make an official port of their game, he has gone ahead and made his own game in the style of Terraria. It now has a new name as well as some new details about when it is coming and what it will cost.

For those of you unfamiliar with Terraria, the best way to describe it is a sort of 2D Minecraft type of game with some exact features to it like quests. Officially Brad’s game will be called Branches and it was set for release today but instead has been delayed a couple of days for some last minute testing. There is a new tentative release date of May 31st, 2012 for when Branches will arrive on the Google Play store.

One thing to note is that multiplayer will not be a part of the initial release of Branches but it is currently being developed. The current state that the multiplayer feature is in is a bit buggy but the developers says that it shouldn’t be too difficult to take care of the bugs.

When Terraria lands on the Google Play store it will be priced at $4.99 as per the voting that happened over at the developer’s site. There also looks like there will be a way to build and share mods for Branches just like you can with normal Minecraft and Terraria although that looks to be in a near future update as well.
