Qualcomm outs their next generation Snapdragon 800 and 600 mobile processors

Earlier this week we provided a lot of coverage on nVidia’s latest mobile chipset that is the Tegra 4. Now we would like to share with you what Qualcomm has in store for us – two new next-generation mobile processors known as the Snapdragon 800 and 600 respectively. What’s really special about both these processors is their insane clock speed – 1.9GHz in the case of the 600 and a whopping 2.3GHz in the case of the 800.

The Snapdragon 800 comprises of a quad-core Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, Hexagon v5 DSP and a 4G LTE Cat 4 modem. Each of the four cores are clocked at 2.3GHz, and the new Adreno 330 GPU delivers twice the performance over the older 320 variant. It can also support higher display resolutions up to 2560×2048, and is able to capture and playback content in Ultra HD.

The Snapdragon 600 on the other hand comprises of a quad-core Krait 300 CPU and a speed-enhanced Adreno 320 GPU. Both the Snapdragon 800 and 600 support LP-DDR3 memory which should allow the system to run smoother. The 800 will deliver up to 75% better performance than the current Snapdragon S4 Pro whilst the 600 will deliver up to 40% better performance.

No release date has been mentioned for the 800, but Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 600 should be in the market by Q2 2013. In any case, we’ve already seen what nVidia has to offer, and now with Qualcomm following suit, mobile devices are going to only get more powerful, and that can only be good for mobile gaming in general as we’ll see more powerful titles headed our way in time to come.
