[Updated] Is the Android version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition back in development?

You may remember us talking about the Android version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and its development being put on hold due to contractual conflicts that had arisen. The iOS version was also pulled from the App Store for the same reason. It seems as though an agreement has been reached, something we weren’t sure was actually going to happen, and the iOS version is back on the App Store which could indicate that the Android version is also back in development.

Update August 16th, 8:14am PST: Beamdog has released new information regarding the Android version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. Apparently it is back under development. Beamdog sent an email to owners of the game stating:

“We’re back!

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is available for sale once again. All outstanding issues with our publishing partner have been resolved.

“We’ll announce the details of an upcoming major Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition patch and the Android tablet version in the near future. We’ll also have some exciting news regarding Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition soon after.

“We want to thank our fans for the outpouring of support we received during this difficult time. Legal issues are never fun. We’re glad we can once again focus on what matters – makin’ video games!”

It’s good to finally be able to report on some good news regarding Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition for Android. The last couple of articles have all been bad news. There was never any specific details released regarding as to the actual reasons behind the contractual dispute that took place which ended up having the Android version’s development stopped and the iOS version pulled from the App Store. Whatever they were it looks to have been resolved.

While the company hasn’t released an official statement saying the Android version is back in development, it would stand to reason that it is since the whole point of it being stopped was because of the contract issues, the same reason the iOS version was pulled. However, before we get too hopeful we are waiting to hear word from Beadog confirming the Android version is back to being worked on.
