[Update: Released] Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.12.0 update won’t be happening today, but this week is still possible

Mojang has been working on the next big release for Minecraft: Pocket Edition for a bit now. If you’re a part of the beta testing group, then you’ve already been enjoying a lot of the new cool features coming with the 0.12.0 update. The crew working on the update have been keeping everyone updated as to when we can expect to get our hands on the new update officially. Last week it was planned to have it out today, but that has unfortunately changed.

Update: Sept. 9th, 2015 7:03am PST: It looks like the 0.12.0 update is starting to roll out to all platforms today. Actually yesterday afternoon it seems the Amazon Appstore version got the update, and now iOS users are reporting its arrival. That means the Android version on Google Play should also be out. If you don’t see it, give it a few as it is still propagating through Google Play. We’ve also added the full changelog below.

Mojang wants to keep doing what they have been doing with the recent updated for Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and that is releasing them for iOS and Android at the same time. Or at least as close as possible. Version 0.12.0 was supposed to arrive today, but because the iOS version is still waiting to be reviewed as of the time of writing this, it looks like today won’t be happening. However, it is still a good chance it will be this week, even possibly tomorrow.

If you haven’t been following the coverage for the 0.12.0, there is a lot of big additions coming to the game including The Nether being added. With the addition of The Nether, there are also new blocks, new materials, and new items such as potions. Also coming in this update, thanks to the Nether, is Enchanting and all that comes with that including enchanting tables and so on. You will be able to keep track of all the new items and materials you gather a bit easier with the new PC-style inventory that is also being added with this update.

The ability to run around endlessly without needing to worry about eating food is coming to an end with the addition of Hunger to the game. You will slowly get hungry over time, and will need to eat food to keep your hunger bar from going empty. If it does get empty, you will start to lose health slowly until you die or eat some food. Weather will also now be in full swing when this update arrives.

Full changelog:

– The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
– Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
– Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
– Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
– Ocelots! Try taming one with a fish
– Experience, Anvils, Brewing, and enchantments. Time to up your game, crafter
– Golems. We recommend you approach with caution
– Flower pots. We recommend you fill them with flowers
– Sneaking and sprinting! Express yourself through movement!
– Loads of bug fixes that are too boring to list here
– Lots, lots more!

Another feature players will be happy about is the interface becoming completely customizable as well as the controls. New animations, soundtracks, a new dungeon design, and commands round out the additions to the game that are not content related. All of the above additions will also have all the appropriate new blocks, new mobs, and new items included in the game with this update.

These are just the big additions coming to Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.12.0, but there will be plenty more on top of the above mentioned ones. We will have a full official rundown of each one when the update arrives which, when it does arrive, we will also post an update so everyone knows.
