Huntdown is coming to Android. New trailer released before E3

Do you like action in your games? Huntdown has plenty of action, for those of you that like your games full of villains that need to be brought to justice. If you are an old school gamer, you will appreciate this pixel-full trailer that was released a couple of days ago. It is coming to consoles, PC, Android and iOS.

If you are a fan of games like Contra, more than likely, you will want to play this game as soon as it is released. Huntdown is the brainchild of Tommy Gustafsson and Andreas Rehnberg. Together they have created a highly imaginative world, pooling different ideas from movies such as John Carpenter’s Escape from New York, Total Recall, Big Trouble in Little China, Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon and several others. It looks like the game is the perfect fit for mobile devices, but if you like playing your games on the big screen, hopefully you will have that option too. The game is planned for consoles and Steam.

“In the future, mighty gangs rule the streets as the police desperately lost control. Crime is king, and the authorities put their trust in hired guns to solve the problem. A price is set on each gang leader’s head. It is time for the Bounty Hunters. It is time to hunt ’em down.

Challenge yourself in this hard-boiled arcade shooter. Huntdown is a retro platformer currently under development by gamer geeks for real gamers.”

Tommy handles game design and Andreas provides the programming expertise. Both of these gentlemen are from Sweden. They grew up playing games in the 80’s. You can tell that the art direction taken in the game, is paying homage to classic games during that era. It seems Tommy and Andreas spent a fair amount of time with their Commodore computers.

The game has several different factions that you will be fighting against including: The Hoodlum dolls, The Heat Seekers, No. 1 Suspects, and the Misconducts. Upon seeing some of the characters from the No. 1 Suspects, I immediately thought of Sho’nuff The Shogun of Harlem, from the movie The Last Dragon. The movie was produced by Berry Gordy in 1985 and starred Taimak as Leroy Green, Vanity as Laura Charles and Julius Carry as Sho’nuff.  I am sure you will be able to see many different influences once you watch the excellent trailer.

We are hoping to find out more about Huntdown while we are at E3 this year. This trailer was released over the weekend in preparation for the start of E3. The narrator’s voice in the trailer, hearkens back to classic movie trailers. He has a deep booming voice that rhymes his lines with a flair that could be found in late 70’s films. The voice over performance is worthy of your attention and fits perfectly with the game. The game looks like there will be plenty to do, including single player and multiplayer. If it is like Contra games, you can expect the game to be tough to beat. A release date for the game has not been announced, but maybe this week during E3 that will be revealed. Stay tuned to DroidGamers to find out more about this neat action game that will be arriving on your Android devices soon.
