9 new Android games you have to play this week

Guns of Boom Android

This week was well misleading in terms of Android releases. It started slow, with very little on our radar, then out of nowhere hit after hit just landed.

Many of those were former iOS exclusives that we were more than a little jealous of as well. All round, it was a pretty decent week to be an Android gamer.

So sit back, and relax into the weekend with these nine absolute essentials.

Best new Android games to play this week: Guns of Boom

Guns of Boom has gone where no game has gone before – it’s a legitimately great shooter on mobile.

The nifty touch controls take care of the shooting for you, which leaves you to focus on aiming for the perfect head shot. Grenades, health packs, and knifing are a mere tap away.

I’d urge even the strongest mobile shooter sceptics to check this out. It’s the real deal.

Grab it right now on Google Play.

Really Bad Chess

Contrary to its name, Really Bad Chess is actually a really great chess game. It’s chess as you know and love it, except the pieces are all random.

You haven’t really played chess until you’ve played it with eight knights, after all.

It’s well worth checking out for fans of the great games and puzzlers like. Grab it right now from Google Play.

Galaxy on Fire 3

Galaxy on Fire 3 finally decided to grace us Androiders with its presence. Better late than never, right?

It’s the third in the bullet hell franchise, and tasks you with taking on a variety of mercenary contracts in space. Bang bang, shooty lazers, and dodgy dodgy.

If that sounds like fun, go and grab it from Google Play right now.

Arkanoid vs Space Invaders

Arkanoid vs Space Invaders is the most self-explanatory name for a game ever. If you really need me to explain it to you, then you desperately need a gaming history lesson.

For the sake of the article, I’ll do it. It’s a combination of both games, and challenges you to not only break a bunch of blocks, but shoot aliens as well.

Go and grab it right now from Google Play.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way

Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a point and click adventure in which you play as a milkmaid. The poor dear gets abducted and sent on a wonderful puzzling adventure reminiscent of the classics.

If you’re a fan of the genre, this one’s well worth checking out. Grab it right now from Google Play.

Old Man’s Journey

Old Man’s Journey is also a point and click adventure, but here you solve puzzles by sliding the environment around to create a path.

It tells the bittersweet story of an old man, who’s looking back on key moments in his life. There’s no script though, so prepare to pick up on a bunch of subtext.

Visually, it’s a real treat though. The backdrops are incredibly gorgeous.

Old Man’s Journey is well worth checking out, so go and grab it right now from Google Play.

Beholder

Beholder is very much a game that represents the times. You play as a landlord who has to surveil his tenants on behalf of the state, and report any broken laws.

Of course, you don’t have to – that’s entirely up to you. Instead, you could ignore evidence, blackmail tenants, or simply hand them over.

In terms of how it plays, it’s pretty much a combination of This War of Mine and Papers, Please. If you like dystopian narrative adventures, grab this from Google Play right now.

Ghouls n’ Ghosts

Ghouls n’ Ghosts is a classic platformer by Capcom, which has just been ported onto mobile. There are a few additions though, in the form of new tricks, gear, boss fights, and a casual mode that makes the experience more palatable.

Retro fans should definitely go and grab this from Google Play right now.

Ghouls'n Ghosts

VOI

I’m not really sure how to explain VOI. It’s a popular puzzler which originally launched on iOS about a year ago, and has finally arrived on Android.

The Google Play page will probably do a far better job of explaining what’s going on here than I could.

Do you think 1 + 1 = 0 is correct? So what do you think about “black + black = white” statement?

VOI is relaxing minimal puzzle game based on XOR logic.

Sound good? Great! Grab it from Google Play right now.
