9 new Android games you have to play this week

SEGA Forever Android

Take SEGA out of the equation, and it would have been a miserable week for Android gamers. There really isn’t very much worth playing.

Thankfully, the Sonic creators stepped up and released a bunch of classics as part of a new SEGA Forever initiative. Basically, we’ll see new SEGA games on mobile every two weeks, and from any prior SEGA system.

The majority feature controller and Android TV support as well, so your mobile is basically the new SEGA system. How cool is that?

Anyway, let’s get into the meat of this. Here are the nine new games you have to play this weekend.

SEGA Forever: Sonic the Hedgehog on Android!

The original Sonic was already available on Google Play, and the premium version is still available. But this week, SEGA released it again for free with some added flair.

It’s free, features controller support, widescreen, and 60fps. You can also pay to remove ads if you’re not a fan. Go and grab it from Google Play right now.

Comix Zone

Comix Zone is an awesome concept. It’s a gorgeous brawler set in the pages of a comic, with you leaping and smashing your way between each panel on your murderous rampage.

If you haven’t played this already, then you really need to. It’s a Mega Drive classic and you have no excuse as its completely free. Grab it on Google Play now.

Altered Beast

Altered Beast is terrible – but lovingly so. It’s a beat ’em up and you should play it if only to hear the iconic opening line “rise from your grave!”

It’s free, and a solid piece of gaming history. Go and grab it from Google Play.

Phantasy Star II

Phantasy Star is the sci-fi sibling of Final Fantasy, and the first sequel is arguably the finest entry. Your goal is to set off on an adventure with some likely companions to save the Algo Star System.

That involves turn based battles, loot, and character customisation galore. Go and grab it right now from Google Play.

Kid Chameleon

Kid Chameleon is an old school platformer of epic proportions. You play as the kid himself, who has the ability transform into a variety of useful forms by wearing masks.

It’s a massive game as well, with over 100 stages to complete. Go and grab it from Google Play right now.

And now for something completely different: Panthera Frontier

It’s not just SEGA games on mobile this week though – we also have a small selection of decent Android releases for you. The first is Panthera Frontier, essentially Faster Than Light with cats.

You’ll still traverse a massive universe in a spaceship, facing random events, battles, and other stuff. You can upgrade your crew, weapons, and ship. Grab it from Google Play.

Dear Leader

Dear Leader is as mad as North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong-un himself. It’s a hack and slash in which demons are invading earth via North Korea, and you have to save it as members of the Kim dynasty.

There are a bunch of different characters to choose from, which are suitably bonkers. If you like satire, go and grab it from Google Play now.

Rider

Ketchapp is back with another hideously addictive high score chaser. This time you read a bike around a bunch of neon-tinted levels, performing a variety of mad stunts.

There are a bunch of challenges to complete, bikes to unlock, and levels to conquer. Go and grab it from Google Play now.

Run or Die

Run or Die is an endless runner that originally launched on PC. You have to run around a retro city performing stunts, battling enemies, and completing challenges.

If you like endless runners but feel like they could do with an increase in difficulty, this is the one for you. Go and grab it on Google Play now.
