Slick indie game The Sinner: Alai’s Curse is the most innovative auto-runner of the year

The Sinner: Alai’s Curse is the debut game from indie developer Sunrise Intelligence, and the team has clearly gone all out to make it a success.

Check out this story for a start. It all begins 1000 years ago in a galaxy called Paralaxius. The Alai of the title is Alai Telorius, a born hero who was destined to do good until the Dark Ninja clan somehow forced him to commit the sin of murder.

Unable to forgive himself, Alai creates a curse whose magical dark energy is so great that it tears the fabric of the universe and opens a portal to parallel worlds. The Sky Lords duly imprison him in Dark Limbo.

The Sinner is a winner

The result of all this is that Alai Telorius is now Alai the Sinner, an immoral wraith doomed to suffer for eternity in a forsaken dimension, with no memory of his previous life.

It’s your job to save Alai from his terrible fate by helping him to recover his memories. In practice this means leaping and teleporting through a variety of atmospheric auto-running stages against the unearthly backdrop of a colourful parallel universe.

The Sinner is no ordinary auto-runner, however. You’re not just moving from left to right, but also up, down, and through thin air like Superman. The game’s seven magical elixirs also let you teleport, and mastering each level means mastering the different skills at your disposal while avoiding the traps that lay in wait for you.

Not a sin

The game is chopped up into memories, and as you make your way through these worlds and recover the fragments of Alai’s true identity you’re treated to a variety of gorgeous backdrops that wouldn’t look out of place in a Marvel film. Alai himself, meanwhile, is slickly animated and practically photorealistic in his movements and appearance.

So if you’re looking for a new take on the auto-runner with awesome graphics, innovative gameplay, and a plot that wouldn’t be out of place in a book of sci-fi stories, we recommend you grab The Sinner: Alai’s Curse for free on Google Play right now. Why not like the game’s Facebook page too?
