ASUS is working on a gaming smartphone – here’s why

Asus gaming Android

Now ASUS has jumped onto the “let’s make an Android gaming smartphone to rival the Switch!” wagon. Though the manufacturer is remaining tight-lipped on the details, it has said gaming is on its radar.

That follows Xiaomi’s Black Shark announcement and, of course, the Razer phone that’s already out in the wild. No doubt many other manufacturers are working on a similar device.

And we’d argue that it’s all thanks to the Switch. Real gaming on the go isn’t a new concept, as we’ve been doing it on our phones for the best part of a decade. But the Switch has changed the game a bit.

Well, that and the fact that phones are now capable of producing finer visuals than ever before. Though console and PC fans will no doubt disagree, that divide between mobile and everything else is smaller.

The Switch and better mobile visuals have changed things

Because when something looks nice, it doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t look quite as nice as everything else. Sure, 4K gaming on your Xbox One X or PS4 Pro looks amazing, but so does Monument Valley.

However, now mobile doesn’t even need to rely on a solid artistic style. PUBG and Fortnite have already proven that we can see console games work well on mobile. Whatever could come next?

Well, we’ll see when these gaming smartphones hit the market. Will they rival the Switch despite lacking the backing of Nintendo’s franchises? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
