Jelly Bean is officially Android 4.1 and the Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ will get it first

Well one issue has been officially cleared up thanks to the Google Play store which has revealed that the next Android OS version named Jelly Bean will indeed be Android 4.1 and not Android 5.0. On a less surprising note, the first device to get this update will be the Galaxy Nexus.

This is all thanks to the Google Play store which, during the checkout phase of purchasing a Galaxy Nexus via Google Wallet, tells you that it will be the first device to get the Jelly Bean update which is then marked as Android 4.1. In fact the exact wordage when checking out is:

“Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ – The latest smartphone from Google, soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jelly…”

That appears as the title while in the process of checking out through Google Wallet when buying a Galaxy Nexus. This also means that Android 4.1 is most likely going to be officially unveiled during Google I/O 2012 since the official application for the even featured a screenshot with what is possibly the new OS version pictured in it. Since the Nexus Tablet isn’t too far off either, it will probably come with Android 4.1 when it is released or very soon after.

At least we can start labeling the next version of Android properly. If you go to check the whole thing out in Google Wallet now though, the above wording has already been removed according to Droid-Life. They did nab a screenshot though so check it out.
