Missile Command: Recharged is Atari’s Reboot of a 40 Year Old Arcade Classic

Atari is set to release Missile Command: Recharged, a souped up reboot of its 1980 arcade classic.

In gameplay terms it looks pretty much the same as the original. Rockets are falling from the sky, and you have to destroy them with counter missiles fired from three silos on the ground. There are new elements, however, such as power-ups, an upgrade system, and an AR mode that creates the illusion of playing on an arcade cabinet.

Neo-Neon

Following the blueprint laid down by remakes like Pac-Man: Championship Edition and Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Mission Command: Recharged has a snazzy neon aesthetic, with simple glowing sprites and a black background – not entirely unlike the original.

Missile Command: Recharged will be available this spring. It’ll be free to download, though you’ll be able to make a one-off in-app purchase to remove ads.
