Turbo Tornado Brings Forza Horizon and Need For Speed Unbound to Android

Want to get your Need For Speed or Forza Horizon fix on Android? Well, you could do a lot worse than checking out Turbo Tornado, an open world racer that just launched on Google Play.

When I first encountered it, I thought: “this is too good to be true, surely.” That’s especially true when you consider how fake the actual screenshots look.

Turbo Tornado Looks Like a PS3 Need For Speed Game

After booting it up though, I’m pretty impressed. It plays a lot like a PS3 Need For Speed game, with you driving around a city, pulling up your phone to check out nearby events, and then driving to them to compete in them.

There’s an on-screen GPS that directs you exactly where you need to go, as well as a racing line to follow. The latter updates dynamically as you race, helping to ensure you’re always in the optimal space.

Much like in Forza Horizon, there are a number of different types of race. Some pit you against other racers, while some are simple time attacks. You can tell which type of races are available on the map.

There’s a Bit of Burnout in There, Too

It also draws inspiration from Burnout, with a score metre filling as you race. You can create multipliers with near misses, and performing other risky maneuvres.

There’s also a bit of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit influence here, in the form of cop chases. If you’re naughty, the police will try and put a stop to your racing goals.

If you like story in your games, Turbo Tornado won’t let you down. There’s a plot that plays out over a series of text messages with the other characters you can meet. It doesn’t seem particularly deep, but it’s a welcome addition nonetheless.

That Pop-In Though

The only aspect of Turbo Tornado I’m not a huge fan of is the awful pop-in. While racing, objects would appear just in front of me, throwing me off. You might need to know you have to turn, for example, as the corner can take a while to appear.

But, other than that, this is a great alternative to Forza Horizon or Need For Speed on mobile. Go and grab it right now on Google Play via the link at the top of this page.
