Why do developers have to ruin games with malicious permissions?

Your accounts
find accounts on the device
add or remove accounts
act as the AccountManagerService
use accounts on the device
create accounts and set passwords

Your location
approximate location (network-based)
precise location (GPS and network-based)

Your messages
send SMS messages

Network communication
full network access
view network connections
change network connectivity
view Wi-Fi connections
connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
Google Play license check

Phone calls
read phone status and identity

Storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage

Your social information
read your contacts
read call log

System tools
change/intercept network settings and traffic
test access to protected storage

I've highlighted the particulary shady ones.

That's ridiculous, I don't care what justifications they have, no game should be requesting that much control on my phone.

I just want to play the game. This developer essentially wants full control of my phone. No game is worth that!!!

Why does Google allow that?

This is just a great game! :D Some amazing retro action going on here and the music just reminds me of ‘Street of Rage’ somehow, I just love it. As for the graphics, I guess there is better out there these days; there are hence grounds for improvement. ;) Shall eagerly expect the next updates and hopefully a sequel!  ^_^
