The hit iOS game Dungeon Crawlers from Drowning Monkey Games, which we reported on in January of this year, has made its way over to Android in the form of a temporary Xperia exclusive. While these exclusives are usually solely for the Xperia Play, this particular one is for all Xperia brand smartphones, not just the Xperia Play. For those of you unfamiliar with what e-sports happens to be, it is essentially professional gaming. These are tournaments played on both console and PC for cash prizes, usually rather large ones. Games such as Call of Duty, StarCraft and so on are played regularly in the e-sport circuit through many of the different tournament companies like MLG (Major League Gaming) and WCG (World Cyber Games). An interesting report has come out over at The Verge regarding the Xperia Play phone and the direction Sony Ericsson almost took with the device. In a patent that had been filed back when the device was being developed, the Xperia Play almost came with two sliders: one being the gamepad and the other being a keyboard. Back in March of this year Sega released the latest edition to their Virtua Tennis series of games, a mobile optimized title called Virtua Tennis Challenge. At the time of the game's release, it was made available only for the Xperia Play with a release date for all other Android devices being in May 2012. Up until now the Playstation Suite SDK has been in a closed beta but as of today it is now being opened up to more developers and the status is being changed to an open beta. The Playstation Suite SDK is a set of tools developers can use to create games for Playstation Certified devices whether it be the PS Vita or the Sony Tablet S and everything in between. Yesterday we reported on Madfinger Games' titles disappearing from the Google Play store. Both Samurai II: Vengeance and Shadowgun, along with all version of each game, had gone poof and vanished for some unknown reason. Well the good news is they are back on the Google Play store as of last night and here is what happened. Sony has made good on its promise to start delivering the Ice Cream Sandwich update to its 2011 Xperia smartphones. As of right now, Ice Cream Sandwich is available for the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and the Xperia ray. If you own one of these devices and happen to live in either Sweden, Iceland, Demark, Finland or Norway, feel free to start the update process now. OnLive has fired up an Easter Sale where you can get a selection of games that you can stream to any of your devices for up to 75% the price of a lifetime pass. Basically what this means is that once you buy a lifetime pass for a game, you can stream it to any device you own for an unlimited amount of time, as long as OnLive is online. Sony recently started allowing developers and Android tinkerers in general to download a beta Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for the Xperia Play. Sony is specifically looking for feedback on how well the games on the Xperia Play run on the new operating system. Sony is taking all that data and using it to make the official ICS update for the Xperia Play as stable as possible. Sega last week released eleven Sega Genesis console titles onto OnLive for people to enjoy, two games today and have even more planned for the future as well. While most OnLive users on Android won't be able to play these using a touch screen, Xperia Play owners and gamers who have the Universal Remote gamepad will be able to enjoy these games. While many may argue that Capcom's Street Fighter is king of fighting games, SNK SNK Playmore would like to politely remind you that they too have their own king of fighters. The King of Fighters, SNK Playmore's own fighting series, have finally made their way on Android. Released by G-Gee, the King of Fighters hopes to be the answer to Android gamers prayers, an honest to god fighting game from a popular series. One game we have been talking about recently on and off due to rumors it was coming to Android is Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition from Sega. Back during the Sega Valentine's Day sale, this game was mentioned as being discounted for Android even though it wasn't available, at least not for North America and Europe. Good news for those of you out there that own a Playstation Certified Android device and would much rather have some original games instead of the porting of Playstation 1 games. Sony has confirmed at the Mobile World Congress, which is going on right now, that original content will be coming to the Playstation Suite soon. |
