Developers of the mobile version of one of the best shooter games from back in the day have released a new free lite version of said game. Battle Squadron One now have a free lite version, which features the entire Part 1 of the game including the whole surface level, for players to try out before buying the full version. Like a middle child, mobile games are constantly vying for our attention. Every week there is a new shipment of mobile games propping themselves on our desks and demands to be played. While we do have dedicated reviewers, sometimes the games can be just as engaging as reviewing your W-2 forms. With the tsunami of new games every week we find our selves repeatedly drowning at the staggering amount of games. For all of you fans out there of dungeon crawling games, there is a new one available to play on your Android device from developer Priority Interrupt called Delver. This particular game is a retro style roguelike dungeon crawler and the developers are doing something a little similar to what Atomicom is doing in terms of fund raising. Let's be honest, Doom isn't just a legend amongst players nowadays, It's more of a lifestyle. It defined the term FPS back in the 90's, and keeps being played to this very day. Now, if you used to think "oh, it just looks so damn pixelated and I'd rather get one of those awesome-looking games on my tablet", you better start getting those bucks out of your pocket, since this OpenGLES port of Doom, Doom II, Ultimate Doom (and virtually any IWAD out there) will surely get you back to some martians-ass-kicking. Every time we write about this game it seems as though it is only positive news about the game getting better and better. This particular instance is now exception to that rule either. When the game was originally announced on Kickstarter, the developers had mentioned that the music would be close to the original game's style. Originally from Nintendo back in the 1980's, Eggs (Model EG-21) from Nintendo's Game and Watch pocket games series has been around for a long time and is also one of the rarer ones to try and find these days, the original version that is. Well now you can play this retro game on your Android device thanks to Celtic Spear called Eggs Deluxe. Originally released back in 1991, Another World (a.k.a Out of this World) was a rather unique game at the time which ended up creating quite the cult following for the title. Recently DotEmu brought Another World over to Android to celebrate its 20th Anniversary but if you haven't picked it up yet, now is a good time. The Oregon Trail, a game from back in the day that is still popular and has had many revamps and spin-offs over the years, now has a new indie game development team working on a title which will pay homage to this classic. Currently being developed by a team calling themselves The Men Who Wear Many Hats, this new game will be filled with zombies and pixel art. Gamevil seems to be pushing forward on Android with yet another RPG being released today called Immortal Dusk. Having released their party-based RPG called just the other day called Advena, it is highly unusual that Gamevil would release another title so quickly, not that we are complaining of course. Back in December of 2011 we talked about a game that was currently being developed by Cope-com which would be a split-screen retro style shooter for Android called Battle Squadron ONE. Well for those of you who have been waiting for this game, it was released the other day onto the Google Play store. If you happen to be as old as I am, and I am not that old, then you have had a chance to play a lot of the handheld LED games from back in the day. One of the more popular ones happened to be the Mattel LED Football game which originally hit the store shelves back in 1978. Well that game is now available on Android via the Amazon App Store. The Leisure Suit Larry franchise is one that just won't stay down. Larry's first game called Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards is probably older than some of you that are reading this. It's that kind of nostalgia that is fueling a Kickstarter campaign to remake the original game for multiple platforms. In the darkest and seediest corner of the internet lies a large number apps and games that you can acquire for free. Along with pirated Google Play apps, there are also a number of these games that will never see the light of day. Following a tip from a reader, I was led to one of the deepest recess of the web to find an .APK to the original Final Fantasy. Don't bother searching Google Play, you won't find it. Sega last week released eleven Sega Genesis console titles onto OnLive for people to enjoy, two games today and have even more planned for the future as well. While most OnLive users on Android won't be able to play these using a touch screen, Xperia Play owners and gamers who have the Universal Remote gamepad will be able to enjoy these games. While there are ports of some of the old school FPS games that have graced our PC or consoles in the past available on Android, these are at their core, just ports. There is nothing wrong with a port of one of these old games but if you are looking for something a little more original, there isn't a whole lot to choose from. |
