Exclusive Preview: Crusaders - a new RTS game coming to Android

One genre of gaming for Android that is still pretty bare in selection is the RTS (real-time strategy) genre. With only a few good titles such as Art of War 2 and Defend Homeland, it is good to see another solid looking RTS game about to be released onto the Android Market in the next few days called Crusaders.

In Crusaders your objective is to conquer foreign lands and restore religious control either by defeating that army or by destroying their castle. Every game will be different that you play as each level is randomly generated as is the content in each level.

Features:

  • Large randomly generated levels
  • Randomly generated content
  • Four map landscapes (from forest through to jungle)
  • Four enemy types with different attributes
  • Various upgrade buildings to help your conquest
  • Soldiers gain experience points for improved attributes
  • Discover unique magical structures to help your conquest
  • Gold can be collected from the land or defeated enemies
  • Powerful heroes can be recruited to help defeat the enemy
  • Monsters to battle for experience points
  • Castles can be destroyed
  • Three difficulty levels
  • Save game ability
  • Tutorial included
  • SD support

The problem that developers seem to face when trying to make an RTS game mostly deals with controls and map scrolling. On small screens it can be difficult to select units, scroll the map and follow all the action. The developer for Crusaders went ahead and studies games like Art of War 2 and Defend Homeland, which have pretty good controls, and tried to implement the cleanest and simplest way to control your units, scroll the map and more into Crusaders.

The game seems to present a good amount of deep gameplay which any good RTS should and the randomly generated content and levels is always a nice touch. You can expect to see Crusaders by Dancing Cat Development land on the Android Market sometime in the next few days. Price is still being determined and the game itself will measure 16MB in size and will run on all versions of Android.
