Seriously, where did this come from? Out of nowhere that is where it came from. Square Enix just dropped a massive title onto the Android Market which wasn't even hinted at being on the way. Crystal Defenders is now available on the Android Market and comes with both W1 and W2 in the same package.

Crystal Defenders is basically a mash-up of Final Fantasy and a Tower Defense game. You will have to deploy your characters in strategic areas to stop the onslaught of monsters that walk through the map trying to get to the exit and stealing your crystals. Each character is based around a job from Final Fantasy such as the Black Mage, Soldiers, Flintlocks and so on.

Even better is that you can also summon Espers during combat as well such as Ifrit or even a Chocobo! As you progress through each stage you'll gain Gil of course for upgrades.

Features:

  • Deploy units on the area map to protect crystal reserves from encroaching monster hordes.
  • Monsters will enter an area and march through it until they are defeated or reach an exit, at which time they will steal one or more crystals.
  • Simple touch panel-driven controls and up-tempo play make Crystal Defenders easily accessible whether at home or on the go.
  • Innovative level design allows for high replayability.
  • Awesome retro-rpg graphics
  • Single package comes with both W1 and W2
  • Total of 240 levels
  • Android 2.1+

If you are a fan of Final Fantasy or tower defense games then you'll definitely want to check this beast of a game out. Surprisingly it only weighs in at 16MB (not installed). There is a lot of deep gameplay involved, especially when you get into W2 so this will definitely keep you busy for a long time.

You'll be able to grab Crystal Defenders by Square Enix off the Android Market for $7.20 but really you're paying for two games which works out to be $3.60 per game, not bad at all.
