Fishlabs just announced that they will be releasing Galaxy of Fire 2 when the Xperia Play goes on sale to the public at the end of March 2011. While this game was developed for Tegra 2 devices, it seems as though the Xperia Play will be getting a version specifically for it that will take advantage of the controls that come with it.

Galaxy of Fire 2 is a space sim game all done up in awesome high detailed 3D graphics. While the Tegra 2 version will allow for control of everything in-game using onscreen controls, the Xperia Play version will be taking advantage of all the buttons and the controller that comes with the device.

Galaxy of Fire 2 will be available for download off the Android Market when the Xperia Play is released for sale to the public at the end of March this year. Full press release below for your viewing pleasure.

Epic outer space adventure Galaxy on Fire 2 comes to the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY

Galaxy on Fire 2™ joins the impressive launch line-up for the new gaming smartphone from Sony Ericsson and will be presented to the public at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona exclusively at the Sony Ericsson booth.

Hamburg, Germany, 14 February 2011 – Galaxy on Fire 2™ will be the first title from the Hamburg-based game developer Fishlabs Entertainment for the new Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY. The highly-praised outer space simulation will appear at the end of March 2011, right on time for the launch of the new Android flagship from Sony Ericsson.

The multiple award-winning sci-fi adventure has been specially adapted for the particular input options of the gaming smartphone and supports both the digital and analogue gaming buttons. You can steer your spaceship with both the left control pad and the analogue touchpad, while the four right gaming buttons can be used to fire the primary and secondary weapons, ignite the boost, and operate the context menu for weapons, hyperdrive, and wingmen. The two shoulder buttons can be used to call up the navigation menu or change the camera perspective.

”The Xperia PLAY is the ideal smartphone for gamers. With a high-performance processor and fast 3D chip, Galaxy on Fire 2 runs incredibly smoothly on the high-resolution display,” says Michael Schade, CEO of Fishlabs Entertainment. ”But the highlight is the gaming buttons. The controls are unbelievably precise and neither fingers nor virtual controls occlude the action on the display. That’s what mobile gaming is meant to be!”

”Fishlabs already set standards for mobile gaming in the Java era with Galaxy on Fire 1 and 2 on Sony Ericsson mobile phones,” notes Jonas Berg, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Partner Manager – Games. ”We are thrilled that Galaxy on Fire 2 - one of the most-acclaimed smartphone games there is - is part of the launch line-up for the Xperia PLAY. The complex outer space simulation with its sophisticated controls seems as though it was made for the gaming buttons on the Xperia PLAY and offers a unique gaming experience for hardcore gamer on the go.”

Galaxy on Fire 2™ will be available for download from the Android Market and other leading app stores when the Xperia™ PLAY goes on sale at the end of March 2011.
