Unigine now supports Android game development. Demo videos show 3D goodness.

Unigine is a 3D game engine that, up until recently, was strictly for Windows/Linux/PS3. Now it supports Android game development with future mobile platforms to be supported in the future. It is nice to see a game engine jump onto Android first when regarding mobile game development, then other platforms later.

Unigine is a real-time 3D engine, which "unleashes the ultimate power" for creating interactive virtual worlds (both modern games and virtual reality systems). When talking about game genres, Unigine would be used to make RPG, MMORPG, FPS, and RTS games but you could use it for anything that needed a 3D world.

Features:

  • Photorealistic 3D Rendering
  • Powerful physics module
  • Object-oriented scripting system
  • Full-featured GUI module
  • Sound subsystem
  • A set of flexible tools (leaves a bit to the imagination)

Unigine is designed to make 3D games optimized for multi-core systems which would make sense as to why they support Android first before any other mobile platform. All the technical details aside, Unigine has released two demo videos showcasing what the Unigine engine can do on Android Tegra 2 devices. It looks pretty damn nice. Both videos are demos running on Tegra 2 Android tablets.

If you're interested in using Unigine to make your 3D Android game, you'll have to shell out some decent coin for your licensing. It will cost $4950 for your Android license plus it will require you to purchase a PC license as well which will run you another addition $9980, for 3 months.
