Square Enix has released games, even recently, onto the Android Market and has been for awhile on iOS. Well now it seems they are ready to just jump right into mobile gaming full force as they have just set up a department/company under them called HippoLabs which will be dedicated to mobile gaming on Smartphones.
You'll have to read between the lines here a bit to see how this applies to Android. They have released a few major titles onto the Android Market already although they do it rather quietly. Also, generally speaking, if it were to target only iOS then they would have just said iOS. Instead they have said they will be focused solely on mobile gaming for smartphones, that would include Android.
According to Gamasutra, the subsidary is looking to provide "high quality original content focusing on smart phones". This could be very good news for Android gamers as Square Enix does have some major titles under it's belt including the Final Fantasy franchise. It will be interesting to see what original content they release for Android, especially with all the dual-core devices coming out and having yet another major game development company jumping onto the mobile bandwagon.
