Fieldrunners HD gets nabbed by Amazon App Store for 2 week exclusive.

A few days ago we talked about the multi-platform hit tower defense game called Fieldrunners. The updated and improved HD version will be an Android exclusive and originally was slated to launch on the Android Market for $0.99 the first day before going to a $2.99 price after that.

Originally it was planned that the game would be free for the first day but due to the Android Market not allowing free games to change to paid games, that plan was scrapped. Instead it was going to be a $0.99 special for the first 24 hours. Because of Subatomic Studios really wanting to release it for free on the first day, Amazon has picked them up and will be launching their game for them as the free app of the day soon. This means it will be free for 24 hours the day it launches. This also means that after that, it will only be available on the Amazon App Store for two weeks before it lands on the Android Market.

Unfortunately, this leaves everyone outside the US and AT&T users stuck when it comes to getting the game with having to wait the two weeks before being able to buy it. Still, the game is pretty awesome and even waiting the extra two weeks will be worth it in the end. We will post another update when we know for sure what day it will be launched on the Amazon App Store. For full details, check out the official press release below.

FIELDRUNNERS HD NOW COMING TO THE AMAZON APPSTORE FOR ANDROID AS A
TWO WEEK EXCLUSIVE

Release Date to Be Announced in the Coming Weeks as the Hugely Popular Game Prepares for Launch on Android

CAMBRIDGE, MA, - JUNE 30, 2011 - SUBATOMIC STUDIOS today announced that it has signed an agreement with Amazon to launch Fieldrunners HD on the Amazon Appstore for Android as a two week exclusive, which updates the launch plan announced earlier this week. A new release date for Fieldrunners HD for Android will be announced in the near future.

“Amazon has worked with us to launch our game the way we want to launch it, which is something all independent developers want,” said Sergei Gourski, CFO. “They are acting like true partners in the launch of Fieldrunners HD, which is exactly the type of thing we want in a distribution relationship, and we know the game will have even greater success from our launch together.”

Subatomic Studios had originally planned to release Fieldrunners HD for Android on Thursday, June 30th. However, after reconsidering launch options, Subatomic decided that launching the game on the Amazon Appstore for Android was a perfect opportunity to deliver the game for free for the first 24 hours and leverage Amazon’s significant marketing and promotion capabilities to ensure the widest possible audience.

“Working with Amazon makes a lot of sense for us and our fans,” said Alec Shobin, PR and Marketing Manager at Subatomic Studios. “Launching Fieldrunners HD in the Amazon Appstore for Android gives us the flexibility to make the game free for the first 24 hours, and although we have to push the release date back to accommodate even more rigorous testing, it will ultimately enable us to deliver a thoroughly polished game that works on even more devices.”

Fieldrunners HD, the most anticipated and visually stunning game in mobile Tower Defense history, is coming to Android with updated hi-definition graphics. You will be able to defend your base and control the field using a diverse selection of upgradeable towers in an epic adventure and master a wide array of tactics and strategies to help you stand victorious against countless waves of unique land and air combatants. Do you have what it takes to defeat the fieldrunners and rise to the top as the ultimate Tower Defense champion? Find out soon when Fieldrunners HD for Android launches on the Amazon Appstore for Android!

One of the first runaway successes on the iPhone, Fieldrunners has won an assortment of awards, ranging from the prestigious “Best Mobile Game” and “Achievement in Art” awards at the 2009 Independent Games Festival, to being featured on the cover of TIME Magazine as one of their Top 10 Games of 2008, where it was listed amongst such titles as Grand Theft Auto IV, Little Big Planet, Gears of War 2, Rockband 2 and Spore.
