Retro game fans can have a bit of a nerdgasm today as we just spotted Boulder Dash - The Collection on the Android Market. Released on October 1st, this is a collection of five Boulder Dash games including the original title from back in 1984.

If you have never played any of the Boulder Dash games before, essentially you will be controlling your character, grabbing diamonds while avoiding various obstacles such as enemies creatures and of course, falling boulders, all of which will kill you. This collection features all the original retro graphics from the actual games, all the original caves but also new caves for you to explore plus First Star Software will also be releasing other surprises in future updates.

Features:

  • Online Leaderboards and Achievements on OpenFeint
  • New graphics for the first 2 cave packs
  • Original retro graphics for the last 3 cave packs
  • Frequent FREE updates! (Lots of NEW caves & surprises)
  • Secret bonus caves
  • Classic Mode: Play with game clock
  • Zen Mode: Play without time pressure
  • All of the Classic Boulder Dash® Creatures & Features:
    • Butterflies (spawns 9 diamond when killed)
    • Fireflies (equally nasty and deadly)
    • Amoeba (surround it to create diamonds)
    • Growing walls (watch out-they’ll block your way)
    • Magic Walls (converts boulders into diamonds)
    • Slime (holds objects, but for a while)
    • Push/Grab/Dig Without Moving
  • New Power-Ups & Tools:
    • Bombs (explode upon impact-push or kick ‘em)
    • Hammers (smash boulders)
    • 90° Cave Rotations (shifts gravity)
  • 3 User-Configured Controls
  • Play in Portrait or Landscape
  • Use ‘Pause & Explore’ to plan your next move
  • Multi-Touch, variable Zoom

While keeping with the original game mechanics, First Star Software has included some new game mechanics to add to the challenge and strategy of the game such as being able to shift the gravity. The pay scale for this collection is a bit interesting. While you will need to purchase the starting set of games for $3.99 it will receive a lot of free updates with new free content. However, should you want to get more of the original games in the collection, they are available as an in-game purchase instead.
