Mars Defender: Space RPG lands on Android. Blends plenty of gaming genres though.

There is a new game on the Android Market that came out Oct. 1st called Mars Defender: Space RPG and although it states RPG in the title of the game, it actually also blends in a great deal of arcade space shooting fun typically found in arcade games.

Mars Defender is a story-driven arcade adventure shooter where you will be in control of your ship with the purpose of protecting the planet Mars for attacks from enemy spacecraft, asteroids and other things that could potentially cause harm to the planet. Why should you care about protecting Mars? According to the story in the game, Mars needs protecting as during the game's storyline, humankind is attempting it's first colonization of another planet which happens to be Mars.

Mars Defender is an interesting game as it really is more of an action arcade shooter than an RPG although it has a much bigger storyline than what you would find in your typical shooter. It also features physics similar to that of the older Asteroid-type games as well except instead of retro-style graphics it comes wrapped up in 3D graphics. If your in the mood for a little space shooter action with some RPG elements tossed into the mix, you might want to check this game out. It was actually developed by the same people who developed the Darkwind: War of Wheels MMO which is a turn-based car combat game for the PC.

Mars Defender: Space RPG comes in two flavors, a lite free version for you to try out and a full version for around $1.30. You can check the game out in action in the trailer below.
