Fans of the Highborn series are getting some good news today as the second chapter in the series is now available on the Amazon App Store. For those of you who don't know much about this game, it is a turn-based strategy game with a bit of RPG and action mixed into it for good measure.

While Highborn is a blend of genres, at it's core it still retains the turn-based strategy game play although you may get a bit distracted with all the humor the developers love to throw into the game. Chapter 2 expands on the original game with 8 new missions, some new faces (and lots of familiar ones too) and more humorous dialog of course. While the heroes are searching for the Arch Lich, they will apparently stumble onto a new evil which they will need to confront.

Features:

  • New Enemies and Allies – Several familiar faces decide they look better in blue than red…or vice versa.
  • New Structures – Factories and teleporters offer new strategic options for confusing the heck out of your enemy.
  • A Face Lift – 3D units and environments feature improved graphics.
  • Spell Details – Monoliths now display which spell they control, along with a cool-down timer.
  • Stats Galore – An end-of-mission statistics screen displays info on turns taken, enemies killed, number of structures captured, and more.
  • Shake to Undo – This highly requested feature has been added to the single-player campaign, allowing players to undo their entire previous turn.
  • A Light Touch – Highborn is a casual mobile strategy game that offers a satisfying experience for players, no matter if they spend minutes or hours in the game.
  • Time for a New Strategy – Highborn features a unique blend of strategic movement and 3D combat that caters to a variety of gameplay styles and offers a great deal of replayability.
  • Multiplay at Your Pace – Turn-based gaming enables players to think, then act, in round-based play via OpenFeint’s 115-million-person community. Players can have multiple games going at once, and can trash-talk their opponents in player-to-player chat.
  • Many Styles of Play – Players unlock hero characters as they progress through the game, giving them access to different abilities and play styles, along with different strategies to use against their opponents.
  • Achieve Greatness – More than 20 single- and multiplayer achievements to unlock, including judicious use of turns, using units as bait, and making it through an entire mission without capturing support structures.

Combat is pretty straightforward as well. After moving your units around on the map you will be zoomed in to watch that battle unfold in a nice 3D scene. Highborn Chapter 2 really expands on the first chapter in almost every way.

Correction: Just a quick correction about Chapter 2. It's available on the Amazon App Store as a separate purchase for $0.99 instead of a free download. Sorry for the confusion. The link below has been updated.

For those of you wondering, no Highborn is not available on the Android Market, strictly the Amazon App store so if you don't have access to it, you won't be able to get it. No word yet on if they ever plan to release it onto the Android Market but on a good note, Chapter 3 is already under developer for Android.
