Clone of the Week: Crazy Garage by GameCycle - Cloning Zuma and not in a good way

You may or may not remember about a week and a half ago we talked about a game called Cut The Birds which was a blatant rip off of Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. We mentioned in that article that we may do a Clone of the Week type of series and so we have decided to do just that. Today's clone is called Crazy Garage.

Crazy Garage is a Zuma clone that just got released onto the Android Market yesterday. If you are unfamiliar with what a Zuma-type of game is, essentially you have a set (or sets) of balls that follow along a path. Your job is to eliminate all the balls before they reach the end of the path they are on. To do this, you tap on your ball shooter and try to shoot your colors balls at the chain in the hopes of getting three or more of the same colored balls side by side. If you do, the balls get eliminated for the stage. Usually there are power-ups that can help you out with this as well.

Zuma games are usually themed around some sort of period in history, usually Egyptian. Crazy Garage, however, is themed around an automotive garage and features a more mechanical look to it. Other than the re-skin to give it a new look which isn't set around some historic period, it's pretty much just Zuma but done poorly. The music is a bad copy of some dramatic song that has been featured in numerous films and commercials and sounds terrible.

Crazy Garage is ad supported and the developer clearly doesn't have any idea on what good ad positioning is. Right from the first stage there is an ad right in the way, covering up a part of the track near the top of the screen. If you have to shoot a ball there, chances are you'll click the ad instead. If the ad wasn't place in a terrible spot, and some better music that doesn't sound like crap, this might actually be a decent clone.

The execution of this game is actually not bad and it plays decently as long as you don't have to shoot a ball anywhere near an ad. If the developer worked on that and actually changed the cheesy music to something better sounding, even if it's not an original soundtrack, he could actually have a decent game on his hands. Unfortunately that's not the case and therefore, unless you are really desperate to play a Zuma clone that is themed to be in a car garage, you might as well skip this one.
