Tale of Tales recently brought over the rather unusual game to Android called The Graveyard. Now they have decided to bring over another rather... unique... game to the Android Market called Vanitas. As the game description says: "To lift you up when you're feeling down. And drag you down when you're up too high".

Somewhat similar to The Graveyard, Vanitas is a game that tries to play on your emotions. As the developers describe it in the market listing, sometimes it's good to see something depressing in order to lift your spirits up if you happen to be depressed yourself. It's a very odd game. You'll be treated to 16th and 17th century paintings and you'll also have a box you can open. When you open it you'll see and object inside it. Close it and reopen it and something else will be there. These objects can be taken out of the box and manipulated in how you see fit and each have their own results when manipulated.

Vanitas Features:

  • Beautiful, tactile realtime 3D graphics.
  • Subtle sound effects.
  • Surprising musical punctuation by renowned avant cellist Zoë Keating.
  • Realistic physics.
  • 35 Different 3D objects with multiple states arranged over 12 stages.
  • Simple, intuitive and direct interaction through multi-touch and tilt.
  • Random combinations can generate over 40,000 different dynamic interactive pictures, each capable of inspiring contemplation.
  • 24 Quotes on the topics of life and vanity from The Bible and from famous authors such as Rimbaud, Nietzsche, Sappho and Kundera.
  • Win a gold star each time you get three identical objects.

With the object you get you can create various other items to enjoy, or apparently make you feel depressed. It's a strange game with the ominous feeling of the old Myst games but combined with a more macabre themed puzzle type of game. If you are up for checking out a rather different sort of game, like The Graveyard was, then you may want to check out Vanitas. It's currently on sale to celebrate it's release for only $0.99.
