The Quake series of FPS (first-person shooter) games has been popular for a very long time since it was up there as one of the first FPS series of games released. Quake III Arena, which landed in 1999 was very popular and now thanks to Zeus Arena and the ioquake3 Engine, you can play it on your Xperia Play.

When you download Zeus Arena, which is an Android port of the ioquake3 Engine, you do not get Quake III Arena as that would obviously be illegal. If you do own a copy of Quake III Arena and still have it lying around then you're good to go with a bit of work. However, if you don't own a copy of Quake III Arena but want to play it on your Xperia Play, you can tell Zeus Arena to download Open Arena right in the app which is a free version of Quake III Arena, this keeping everything nice and legal

Zeus Arena does allow you to play Quake III Arena though if you do own a legit copy of it along with a lot of the expansions and mods that have been created over the years. You can download Zeus Arena off the Android Market for about $1.00 and obviously if you need Open Arena it will download that for you for free if you tell it to do so. You can check out Zeus Arena in action on an Xperia Play in the video below. We have to admit, it looks pretty good in that video too.
