Classic Game Boy Advanced title, Sonic Advance, quietly appears on the Japanese Android Market

We already know that Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega is on the way to Android in December and, in fact, you can get an early copy if you happen to buy an Android tablet from GameStop as it comes pre-loaded on them. However, this new Sonic title came out of left field and is currently only available on the Japanese Android Market.

Sonic Advance was a title from back in the days when the Game Boy Advance was one of the big handheld gaming systems to be running around with. Like all Sonic games, Sonic Advance was a fast-paced platformer where you needed to collect rings, avoid enemies, bounce off springs and make your way to the exit of each stage while on the hunt for the series' famous villain Eggman.

Just like the original, the more famous Sonic characters appear in this game including Tails, Knuckles and Amy. If it remains true to the original as well, you'll be blazing through six different normal zones and two additional special zones.

Also, depending on how many emeralds you collect throughout the game determines whether or not you get a good or bad ending when you finish it. Of course most people know all of these things as it's a rare find to know someone who hasn't played at least one Sonic the Hedgehog title at least one time.

While the Sonic Advance game is a free install, it is only available for Japanese Android users on the market right now and it is legit as it comes from Sega. A sign of things to come? More Sonic and other classic games from Sega heading our way? It could be very possible and we do know Sega has something up their sleeve, they just won't tell us just yet what it is so don't go too far away.

If you are one of our Japanese readers and have access to Sonic Advance, you can grab it for free off the Android Market and feel free to let us know how it is.
