New physics-based puzzler, Boom Bugs, arrives to challenge Angry Birds on Android

There is a new physics-based puzzler on Android that could very well challenge Angry Birds in the realm it dominates. Others have tried and come close and this one could do the trick. Boom Bugs takes some of the aspects of Angry Birds and builds on it to make a whole new experience.

While some of the mechanics may seem familiar such as knocking over buildings to kill the evil spiders, your bugs are much more than slingshot fodder. Each bug has different abilities (total of 9) and sometimes a direct attack isn't the solution where as with Angry Birds it usually is. You will need to place your bugs in static locations before anything happens and then you will need to tap on them to detonate each bug to kill off the spiders in various ways whether it's dropping boulders on them or making them fall.

Boom Bugs Features:

  • 9 bugs with different powers
  • 54 challenging levels (a lot more to come)
  • Funny voice overs
  • Cute high-res graphics
  • Share progress on Facebook and Twitter

While this may end up not being an Angry Bird killer, it should certainly give it a run for its money considering it features some of the same mechanics, brings a slew of new ones into the mix which in turns brings more depth to the game while remaining cute like Angry Birds. You can download Boom Bugs off the Android Market for free to try out. If you like it you can buy the full version through an in-game purchase. Also I do believe this game is playable online through a browser over at MiniClip.
