Retro racing to get a facelift as it makes it way to Android in Turbo Racer

There are plenty of retro-style racing games we would like to see land on the Android Market, perhaps with a bit of a facelift to bring it a bit more into the modern times but still keeping that retro edge that makes old games still fun to play even today. One such game that is trying to accomplish this is Turbo Racer.

Turbo Racer is a retro-style game that, while keeping true to it's retro roots, will get a facelift in the form of 3D graphics an environment. The interesting deal here is that even though the graphics are 3D, they stick to the retro look of how these games used to be back in the day.

Currently Turbo Racer is under developers by a team of people who haven't even picked a name yet in regards to what we should call them. For now we shall name them "that group". This game will come complete with traffic you will have to avoid, computer AI opponents who will do whatever it takes to beat you and of course police who will do whatever it takes to stop you. It looks like it is right out of the arcades from back in the late 80's just with better 3D graphics.

So when is this coming to Android? Unfortunately no time frame has really been set as it is still in the early stages of development but judging from the pre-alpha footage in the video above, it looks like things are coming along rather well. Hopefully we see this land on Android sooner than later next year. You can follow the game's development over at the blog the Lead Artist has set up to chart the games progress.
