Retro game fans can go ahead and have a nerdgasm now as word is out that the world's first split-screen shooter, Battle Squadron ONE, will be making its way to Android in early 2012. Developed by Cope-Com, this was the first game to feature split-screen gameplay.

Cope-Come has actually recently released Battle Squadron ONE onto iOS and now they are planning to invade Android as well with this classic game from back in the day. Cope-Com will be using another company called GoldenCode to distribute the game which will be available for Android devices sporting Android 2.3+.

Of course this game will also come with a single-player game mode but should you want to play with a friend you can just have them take the other end of your tablet and get to shooting down a plethora of enemies right along with you. Unfortunately we don't know how full of a port of a game this will be from the original in terms of content, whether it will see any improvements or if it will stick to all the old school goodness the original had.

You can expect Battle Squadron ONE to land on Android sometime in early 2012, no word on pricing yet though. You can check out the game in the trailer above. We will be sure to post an update once more information comes to light.
