Mortal Skies 2 blasts its way onto Android in all it's 1942 style glory

Mortal Skies was one of the better, if not one of the top, 1942 style top-down shooter games available for Android. The graphics were crisp and the gameplay was tight and frantic as it should be. Now developer Erwin Jansen has released a sequel to that game called Mortal Skies 2.

In Mortal Skies 2 you are in the year 1950 in a time where World War II actually didn't end and so German and Japanese forces are attacking the free world. You will be escaping a prison camp and blasting your way through enemies to freedom and hopefully putting an end to the war this time.

Mortal Skies 2 Features:

- Earn XP by playing the game and reaching milestones in the game.
- This XP can be used to improve your plane's speed, armor, bullets and bonuses.
- 9 big levels across varied environments.
- Huge diverse end-bosses including Bombers, Tanks, Choppers and even a one on one dogfight end-boss.
- 13 Weapon upgrades/power-ups.
- Awesome Achievement missions: Earn Bronze, Silver and Gold cups for each of the 9 different achievement missions. Different achievements require different gameplay tactics, so you will be challenged to keep playing.
- OpenFeint support. Submit your highscore and compete with other players worldwide to be the best Mortal Skies 2 pilot in the world.
- Difficulty settings can be adjusted using a slider bar (100 different difficulty levels !). Increasing the difficulty will also increase the maximum available highscore. So you will always be challenged to set that score.
- Control your plane by using Touch controls or Accelerometer.

While this is your standard shoot 'em up type of game, there are some interesting mechanics involved that you don't usually see in these types of games including protection missions. For example, at some point during a level, you will have to protect medical aircraft from the enemies. The graphics also look at lot more crisp and detailed than the first Mortal Skies game.

If you enjoyed the first installment into this series or just like fast-paced shooters like this, you may want to check this title out. It's available for download off the Android Market for around $1.93. To see the game in action, check out the video above.

Thanks to ShadowOfAnAndroid for the heads up!
