We've talked a lot about nVidia's upcoming handheld gaming system Project Shield already which sports a Tegra 4 chipset and will be running the latest version of Android when it's released. We've also mentioned there is a separate UI which is focused on gaming where you can play games you've purchased on Google Play, Tegra-optimized games from Tegra Zone or PC games streamed from your PC to your Project Shield unit.
We've even seen this last feature demoed briefly during the nVidia CES 2013 press conference where they played the Mech-themed MMOFPS Hawken as well as a few games off Steam like Assassin's Creed 3. Well now the nVidia team working on Project Shield has demoed a game everyone wanted to see running on Project Shield and that is Borderland 2. In the video below you'll see the ‘Badass Crater of Badassitude’ level of Borderlands 2 played on Project Shield which is being streamed from a PC with one of the newer GeForce graphics cards.
While this type of streaming is limited in distance from your computer to your Project Shield unit, eventually once nVidia's GRID cloud gaming service spreads further, you'll be able to play these games anywhere and at anytime. For those curious, the rig streaming the game to the Project Shield unit is a Falcon Tiki PC running a GeForce GTX 680 graphics card, which allows them to run the game with the graphics settings cranked all the way up. Of course any newer graphics card in the GeForce series will be able to stream games.
