Adobe AIR games to try on your Android device

So you're rocking the Flash player on your Android phone and you've got Adobe AIR installed as well, but what now? There isn't a whole lot of selection just yet regarding games. Well, luckily for you, we here at DroidGamers spend way too much time sifting through the games section of the Android Market and testing out games so we can recommend (or not recommend) them to you.

While AIR is still relatively new (the service only came out on Oct. 8th), there are already a few good titles to grab and play. Most are also free, which is a nice added bonus, but don't forget to support your favorite developers by buying their paid games as well! And so, without any further delay, here are some AIR games you might want to try out.

Gravity Lander

Gravity Lander is a physics game developed using Adobe AIR which is similar to Camel Games' Super Tumble in that you are trying to get an object (in this case a rocket) to land on the bottom red area which is supposed to be Mars. Featuring 40 levels that get progressively more difficult as well as some great retro game graphics (and I mean seriously retro), this game is a great example of how AIR can make games truly great. You can pick this little gem of a game up on the Android Market for free.

PhysTest

Staying on the subject of physics games, PhysTest isn't technically a game but it is pretty entertaining. Perhaps I'm easily, but I find making a mesh figure bounce around hilarious. There are several different shapes to play with and you can make them all do different things, all physics based. Better yet, it's open source so feel free to download the source and make it your own!

RobHeadAlpha

Another cool retro/bit graphic game, but this time it comes in the form of a cave flyer. Basically, you just fly through a cave collecting items without touching the ceiling or floor of the cave and if you do,  you crash. Controls are simple tap controls: tap the screen to give your little guy a boost so as to keep him from hitting the ground while he is flying forward. Deceptively simply but really addictive and challenging. Also available for free on the Android Market.

Meteor Storm

Meteor Storm is one of a few games released by game developer Terry Paton. This one is a defense game where you shoot oncoming meteors before they hit your moon base. You get bonus points for shooting satellites, power-ups, and more, and the game currently features 12 levels. Terry Paton is a developer to keep your eye on when looking at games using Adobe AIR, as they all seem to be high quality titles so far. Available for free on the Android Market.

MazeBall

Another title by Terry Paton, MazeBall is as fun as it sounds. In this game, you need to move your ball through a maze by tilting your device while avoiding various obstacles and traps. Lighting up the floor tiles will boost your points, and some tiles will push and pull you, while others will take you up or down a floor. It is a great time killer if you are looking for something more thought provoking then shooting meteors. You can pick MazeBall up on the Android Market for $1.89.

Pocket Casino

To finish up our selection of Adobe AIR games, we have Pocket Casino, which was developed by XGen Studios. This game features unicorn racing where you bet on unicorns just like you would do at a horse racing track. You do this via Blackjack, Roulette and Classic slots. While not sporting anything overly original in terms of casino games, the overall look and feel of Pocket Casino is clean and enjoyable. If you get a moment check out XGen Studios' website as well, as they have several other very cool games available. Available for free on the Android Market.
