The announcement that R-Type is coming to Android Sept. 12th should have your retro gaming hunger in need of a fix right now, we feel it's our job to just make it worse. With that said, there is another retro-style shooter coming our way called Disciples of the Space Goddess.
Aside from the long name, Giraffe Head Games is working on this new title that is going to be similar in style and gameplay to games like 1942 but with a space theme wrapped around it. In other words this will be a vertical scrolling shooter with a retro style and a space theme. Gameplay is what you would expect in a vertical scrolling game like this. You'll be dodging enemy bullets while trying to shoot them down at the same time.
There is also the standard slew of power-ups and items. In fact the developers have released some numbers for us to crunch:
What's interesting though about this particular retro-style arcade shooter is that the developers are working on bringing multiplayer functionality to it. How this will work and turn out remains to be seen but the concept is interesting nonetheless. Giraffe Head also has another game in the works for Android which, aside from the title, they are keeping fairly quiet about. We do know it is a tower defense game called Tower Defense of the Living Dead. We can guess it is about zombies and such.
Disciples of the Space Goddess is slated for release sometime later this year. Hopefully it will launch with multiplayer already on board.
