So HTC is now rumored to have the first quad-core Tegra 3 Android phone?

Rumor is going around about the just leaked HTC Edge Android phone which will apparently have a quad-core Tegra 3 chip stuffed inside of it. Originally the Asus Padfone was rumored to be the first quad-core Android phone but now new information is pointing to that device being stuffed with the Snapdragon S4 chip instead.

So with HTC being quite the Qualcomm supporters in the past, it's a bit surprising to see an HTC device sporting a chipset from nVidia. Along with that, this could also be coming with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and will likely come with the newest version of their software including Sense, HTC Play (their gaming hub), HTC Listen (their music store), HTC Read (their bookstore) and HTC Watch (their movie store).

Rumor Specs:

  • Quad-core 1.5 GHz Tegra 3 processor
  • Android 4.0 with Sense UI 4.0
  • 4.7-inch display with 720p resolution
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Backlit 8 MP camera with 28-millimeter, f/2.2 lens
  • Beats Audio
  • 32 GB internal storage
  • HSPA+ 21 Mbps

According to the leaked information, the HTC Edge should be available sometime in late Q1 or early Q2 which follows perfectly with nVidia's timeline for Android phones being released with Tegra 3 chips inside them. Unfortunately no word yet on what carrier(s) will get this phone. Don't forget that Android 4.0 will have expanded support for game controllers so now you won't need to have a tablet in order to have a portable gaming system.

As with all rumors and leaks, take it with a grain of salt.
