Editorial: High Definition gaming - is it where it should be yet?

This is my first aritcle that's not a game review, so bare with me while I find my feet. Recently I've been thinking about where gaming on android is headed. Now when the Tegra 2 chipsets hit a vast array of devices, a lot of people weren't too happy as it was thought it would add to the fragmentation that already exists in Android.

For me, I was expecting a huge wave of these crazy HD games that would come flooding out of the wood works, when in truth, it wasn't like that at all. The gaming scene on android hardly changed. Now don't get me wrong, the THD games released were more than stunning and not what I was expecting at all. Not many developers jumped on the abilities capable of these devices.

What we still seem to find is that all the major games being released on iOS seem to be of great quality while android usually misses out. Luckily next year we'll be getting great titles from the likes of Square Enix and other major Publishers and Developers. You'll see pictures of some of these games throughout this editorial.

Now with Tegra 3 available, I think the whole discussion over the power of the processors and GPU's is irrelevant as we have the same if not more power than any other mobile OS out there. I can't help but feel that the whole gaming section on android is somewhat underpar. We've had the power available for a while now with dual core chips being around since earlier this year, when in fact not a lot games actually push to the limit of what's possible.

When it comes to the future of gaming, as I mentioned earlier, next year is starting to look like it could be the year android gaming really skyrockets. But why has it taken this long for developers to finally yield to our gaming needs? Gameloft has been a big name that has dropped some excellent games for android and they showed that it is possible to support multiple devices and still make money from it. Although as of lately, Gameloft has released two less than acceptable games onto the android market which can only be described as java ports... enough said.

The ultimate answer to the question " is android gaming where it should be?" appears to be cloudy because with a general release date being "2012" for a lot of titles, its hard to say if that's going to be the beginning or the end of the year. Android will start seeing ports of old iOS games next year that have been available over there for a while already. Take sonic CD, that's supposedly available for iOS right now but the android version is delayed til next year. I wouldn't mind but I can't see it being a too much hassle to sort out the coding for android... I'm not annoyed though, I'm a huge sonic fan!

To finally finish up, start saving up money now because as of next year, gaming wise, Android is looking strong. Also I'd like to know what you guys think. Please leave your thoughts and ideas on the whole android gaming scene below... I look forward to reading through them. Till Next Time Droids.
