Archos announces G9 tablets. 1.5GHZ dual-core beasts with Android Market access?

Archos had a decent run with their first few Android tablets that they released but one of the drawbacks to them was the lack of Android Market access. Well that has changed with their new line of tablets heading our way. They also stepped up their game when it comes to hardware too.

Archos is dubbing this line of Android tablets the fastest tablets available, when they become available that is, and will also be sporting Honeycomb instead of some out-dated version of Android. The Archos G9 tablets will be coming in two flavors, an 8" and a 10.1" version. Both will be packing an OMAP 4 dual-core chip that will be running at 1.5GHz and Archos is making big claims that it can reduce load time by up to 50% over Tegra 2 chips when browsing the internet.

Both will also come stuffed with a 250GB Seagate hard drive so good luck filling that up fast with apps and games. Not to be outdone by that, both tablets will also be able to use 3G or WiFi connections. If you think those specs are enough to heat up the tablet wars a little bit more, just wait till we tell you the pricing. For the 8" G9 Archos tablet, the price will be around $249 while the 10.1" will start at $349. Ultimately though, like the hype of other companies who come out with 'revolutionary' tablets, it all looks good on paper (or e-mail press releases in this case) but real life performance is a whole new ballgame and that includes things like customer service, proper supplies being available and so on.

The tablet wars are heating up and it will only get better for the consumer/gamer as we also have Tegra 3 devices coming in a matter of a couple of months like the ASUS quad-core tablets that are currently in development (and yes, they are coming and it isn't just a rumor like a lot of sites are reporting). There are also other companies coming out with dual-core devices as well so competition will be pretty fierce. The next few months should be very interesting in the multi-core Android world. Full press release below for your reading pleasure.

Hopefully we can get our hands on a unit to test out... hint hint Archos.
