GameStop already testing Android-based branded gaming tablet

It's been floating around for awhile that GameStop would be getting involved in the mobile gaming scene. In fact we've known this to be true for some time now and with the recent announcement of their iOS device trade-in program, the news today that GameStop is testing an Android-based gaming tablet shouldn't be a surprise.

The fact that companies like Steam and OnLive are getting into the mobile gaming scene, this would be the next logical step for a company such as GameStop to take as well. However, the news that they have already selected a specific tablet to be branded as the GameStop gaming tablet has come much sooner than we thought.

Apparently the tablet has already been in testing for two weeks and while it will feature a selection of games at launch, it will also come with the ability to stream games to it, such as Modern Warfare 3 for example, through the use of Spawn Labs' technology which they acquired not too long ago. To compliment all of this, GameStop will also be releasing a dedicated controller for their tablet which will make playing games, such as Modern Warfare 3, just like it would be on a console since touch controls and twitch gaming don't exactly mesh well at times.

No word just yet on what tablet they selected, or the specs for that matter, but considering it is in testing already, it shouldn't be long before we see it released. We are guessing it will be available for the holiday shopping season though and that it will be dual-core if not quad-core considering nVidia will have quad-core tablets out by then as well.
