Some bad news coming down the pipeline for anyone who has pre-ordered an Asus Transformer Prime from Amazon. Unfortunately it looks like letters (e-mails) are going out stating that orders are being canceled due to a supply shortage from the supplier.
This isn't the first time this has happened either. Companies selling the original Asus Transformer when it was first released unfortunately had a very difficult time keeping it stocked which was due to a shortage in certain components for the tablet itself. It looks like history is repeating itself with it's new brother the Prime although as to why the shortage is happening isn't being mentioned anywhere. Some people are still reporting that they are fine with their pre-order from Amazon so they could be just scaling down the number and cancelling only some pre-orders.
This is interesting news as other retailers have recently confirmed availability for the Asus Transformer Prime citing the date Dec. 19th, 2011. In fact GameStop just confirmed this as well today in an announcement. It does make one wonder why a company the size of Amazon won't be able to stock it while GameStop and others will be. This is, of course, as long as they don't start sending letters out as well.
