Qualcomm releases the faster, and most expensive, Android tablet so far

PC gamers are cured with the want, and need, to have the latest and greatest hardware to fulfill their gaming needs to have the best performance and graphics. We can start saying the same thing is true for mobile gamers now that we have multi-core devices with HD capable screens, peripherals geared for mobile gaming and so on.

Qualcomm has decided to unleash a beast of a tablet which is not only apparently the fastest tablet right now but also the most expensive. Dubbed the Snapdragon S4 Pro Mobile Development Platform tablet, or MDP tablet for short, this tablet sports a 1.5GHz Krait CPU which has been teamed up with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU. This combination makes for very high performance. The MDP tablet sports Android 4.0 out of the box but a Jelly Bean update is on the horizon for the near future.

Currently the target demographic for this tablet is developers, both for application and games, which is why it apparently sports the MDP name. The Krait chipset, teamed with the Adreno GPU, will be eventually available for both Android smartphones and tablets, something that isn't really new information but it is nice to have confirmation of this. The CPU will be available in both a dual-core and quad-core model which is also nothing new information-wise.

Finishing up some of the hardware that comes with this MDP tablet is a 13 megapixel camera which can handle all the video recordings (in 1080p) and pictures you want to take. However, it can support up to a 20 megapixel camera should a manufacturer who uses this combination of CPU, RAM and GPU feel like stuffing into a phone or tablet. There is also LTE support with both the dual- and quad-core Krait chipsets.

The dual-core Krait chipset is already making appearances in Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S III but this is the first time the quad-core edition has been available in any device. If you want to pick up the MDP tablet, you will have to shell out a mere $1,299 for it. Obviously this price isn't set for the consumer population as it is a developer geared device but should you have some spare change laying around, you can pick up one of these off of BSquare.

Now we just have to wait and see what nVidia and Samsung come back with to compete against the quad-core Krait from Qualcomm.
