PAX East 2013 began just over an hour ago or so ago and one of the first major press events was Blizzard's where they announced their new game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. While it will be available for PC and Mac of course, this title becomes their first mobile available game but if you followed the event then you probably know where we are going with this already. Unfortunately the only mobile platform that is being supported, at least for now, is the iPad.
Whether Blizzard has future plans to bring their new game to Android or not remains unknown. However, Blizzard does have applications on the Google Play store so it isn't like they aren't familiar with developing for Android. It is actually a bit of a surprise to hear that Android tablets were not included in the announcement for supported platforms. As you can imagine, plenty of Android users have taken to the new Hearthstone forums asking about an Android version of the game. Unfortunately there hasn't been a response yet by anyone from Blizzard.
For those of you who missed the announcement, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a CCG (Collectible Card Game) that is fully animated and is based off of the entire Warcraft universe. Players will choose to play as one of the classes from World of Warcraft (like mage, druid, warlock, etc) and build up decks to battle it out against other players. The game will be free-to-play and new cards, as well as booster packs of 5 cards, can be earned in-game or purchased for around a dollar.
Since the game is fully animated, there are plenty of special effects and animated motions when playing the game. There are also some rather unique features that set this particular card combat game apart for all others. Features like Card Crafting and Disenchanting Cards for materials to craft new cards are all part of Hearthstone.
So will an Android version ever arrive? We don't know but we would like to think Blizzard would include Android tablets at some point. Unfortunately nothing officially has been announced at all regarding Android tablets. We are trying to get word if there are plans and we will post an update when we find anything out. For those of you interested in being in the beta (US only right now), you can sign up over on the official Hearthstone website.
