One game a lot of people have been waiting for is Harebrained Schemes' Shadowrun Returns title which had a very successful Kickstarter campaign last year. Originally this game wasn't slated for release onto Android but thanks to all the funding the campaign got, the stretch goal for an Android version was easily reached.
We've actually covered this game's development since its campaign was successful so you may remember that the release date for Shadowrun Returnsgot pushed back. Featuring the same cyberpunk type of feel fans of the franchise should be used to, Shadowrun Returns will play out more like a point-and-click adventure game but with plenty of action meshed into everything along with all the RPG goodness you would expect.
What we didn't 100% know was that players of the game will be able to create mods and content for Shadowrun Returns. This means that the game will essentially have an unlimited amount of content for players to play as long as people keep making content. The game will be released with a full single-player campaign which players can edit as much as they like. This campaign is actually to play but doubles as a starting point for folks who want to create content but it is not necessary to use the provided campaign.
A set of tools will be released that will allow interested individuals to create content from the ground up or using the actual game's campaign as a start. This set of tools will allow not only the creation of maps but also stories for those maps. These tools will be released onto Steam for people to download alongside the game's actually release.
So when is Shadowrun Returns actually getting released? Well we have a little over a month to wait as the game is slated to launch on July 25th, 2013 onto all platforms at the same time. So for us that means if you own an Android tablet, you'll be able to pick the game up then. If you have 20 minutes to spare, you can check out the 20 minute video of Alpha gameplay below.
