Quite how it has taken so long to port Townsmen 6 from J2ME to Android is a mystery, but anyone keen on resource management and strategy won’t be complaining. The Townsmen series has long been one of the best strategy games available for mobiles – but will this latest incarnation disappoint?

[Update] Jet Set Games launches Highborn turn-based strategy game exclusively on the Amazon App Store
The crew over at Jet Set Games have launched a wicked looking turn-based strategy game called Highborn onto the Android platform. Now this is were you’ll have to get used to hearing this next line. It is available exclusively on the Amazon App Store. This is obviously going to be a trend if it wants to compete with the Android Market.

So you’ve been wanting a good, detailed Civilization clone for awhile now but really, there isn’t any available on the market that can truly stand up against the PC game. Well there is the FreeCiv movement which is creating a free version of the game but not for Android. One developer has decided to change that.
One genre of gaming for Android that is still pretty bare in selection is the RTS (real-time strategy) genre. With only a few good titles such as Art of War 2 and Defend Homeland, it is good to see another solid looking RTS game about to be released onto the Android Market in the next few days called Crusaders.
Hexage has been developing games for Android for some time now, all of which are high quality games covering a variety of genres. From day one they have concentrated on great games for Android and have made a solid name for themselves in the Android community. All your traffic control style game lovers out there have something to be happy about. Instead of the usual ‘do not let accidents happen’ type of traffic control, whether it is with cars or airplanes, Astral Commander throws in a sci-fi twist with robots and Starcraft style mining goals. Connect2Media and HandyGames have gone into an agreement with GlobalFun regarding the distribution of their games following the developers recent announcement regarding liquidation. In the agreement Handy Games will publish Crazy Cats and UFO Afterlight exclusively on Android in most territories while Connect2Media will do the Israel and Egypt distribution.
There isn’t a whole lot in the way of RTS games for Android right now and even out of the ones available, even fewer are actually good. Off the top of my head I can only think of 3 good ones. Looks like I might be adding a forth one to that list thanks to GameResort’s slick looking RTS game called Castle Warriors which recently arrived onto the Android market.
The very popular game iPhone Galcon, developed by Hassey Enterprises Inc, has finally landed on the Android market. Most people who have owned an iPhone at some point have probably also played this game. While there are already games similar to this on the Android market, most people liken this to being one of the best versions of this sort of game.
Herocraft has recently released an RTS game called Art Of War 2. Originally developed by Gear Games, Herocraft ported it over and released it for Android user consumption.
