HTC has shipped out two developer kits for their upcoming Vive VR headset that they have been developing since last year with Valve. Well it looks like consumers will finally be able to get their hands on their own headset soon as both companies have revealed the Consumer Edition of the HTC Vive. On top of that, pre-orders will be going live in just over 6 days.
Released by Valve, Half-Life 2 is an icon of voodoo gaming as a whole, not just its genre of First-Person Shooting. The game is available for weekday I believe is anything running Nvidia’s SOC, and outright requires a controller to play. Never having played a Half-Life game before, I was quite excited at the opportunity. I’ve spent the part few weeks playing through this game, and this is my review.
While it may be a bit on the smaller side of things, if you really want to scratch that FPS itch you may be having while out and about, then you will be happy to know that you can play Valve’s Half-Life on your Android Wear watch. What is even a bit more surprising is that the performance of the game, in most places, is actually pretty good, hitting 30FPS at times.
Four new games arrive for Nvidia Shield devices: Half-Life 2 Ep. 2, Q.U.B.E, Never Alone, and Funk of Titans
While a lot of Shield Android TV owners are waiting for the release of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel which should be happening soon, Nvidia has announced four new games for their Shield brand of devices, all of which are now available. The new games are Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Q.U.B.E. Director’s Cut, Never Alone, and Funk of Titans.
Valve has finally gotten around to updating their official Steam application on Android, changing the User Interface to reflect more of a Material design look instead of the old UI it had which honestly was pretty ugly. Of course looks aren’t everything and the app usually did its job, but having a nice looking application always helps.
[Update: Winners Picked] [US Residents Only] Enter for a chance to win a Portal-themed T-shirt from Shirts.com
Nvidia is getting ready to launch their new Shield Android TV console, which will allow us Android gamers to not only play Android games but PC and console games as well, depending on the system/service you use with it. Between that and Zen Studios getting ready to launch a new Portal pinball table that they worked on in conjunction with Valve, there is a lot of non-Android specific gaming heading our way soon. Since a lot of people are fans of Portal, we figured giving away some Portal-themed T-Shirts would be a fun thing to do.
Zen Studios is teaming up with Valve to release a new pinball table based off of the iconic game franchise Portal. Taking inspiration from both the original and the sequel, the table called “Aperture Science Heuristic Portal Pinball Device” is set to come to Android among many other devices the week of May 25th.
Back near the end of March 2015 we reported on HTC and the fact that they would be offering developers a chance to apply for a free Vive Developer Edition virtual reality headset which they can use to develop games for. The only thing that developers were waiting for was to have HTC launch their official website that developers would be using to sign-up for the headset.
One of the upcoming VR headsets that has a lot of attention on it right now is the HTC Vive, a team effort between Valve and HTC. Well HTC is hoping to have developers signing up for a free HTC Vive headset ‘soon’, and by ‘soon’ the company is hoping to have things going by next week.
