A new life for WoW Mobile.

Blizzard has cancelled NetEase’s World of Warcraft project.
Up until now, if you used the World of Warcraft Remote services on your Android and iOS device, you could use it partially for free. To access all of the features though, you had to subscribe to the service which ran $2.99 per month. It was an optional subscription you could sign-up for if you felt like you would use all of the features the app and service had to offer instead of what came with just using it for free.
If you follow us on a regular basis then you already know that this type of article has a 50% chance of being related to Android gaming and the other 50% chance being for just gaming related in general. This falls into the latter category as someone has recreated the entire Kalimdor continent from Warcraft in Minecraft.
Well here is some interesting news that could be big for mobile gaming if it comes true, at least when it comes to Android and iOS. Blizzard’s COO Paul Sams has said that there are actually a couple of dedicated teams within Blizzard working on mobile apps. That’s nothing new as we have the Remote Auction House with guild chat and a couple other ‘accessory’ apps available to us on Android.
You can blame Beau Hindman from Massively for this article and most likely my possible disappearance for the next few hours. After watching his live streaming of Gameloft’s Order and Chaos, he had to go and post an article detailing a new application for mobile devices that, aside from being productive, will let you play games on your mobile device from your PC.
While Blizzard has had the World of Warcraft Remote App out for Android for some time already, it only had remote auction house functions enabled. Depending if you were signed up for the subscription or not, you could do just about anything with the auction house in-game. The app has now been updated with the new guild chat feature.
World of Warcraft players who are already using the Remote App by Blizzard to check the auction house and buy/sell on there are in for a treat. If you haven’t used it, you might want to consider it now as Blizzard is planning on adding remote Guild chat to the application. As the name suggests, you’ll be able to talk to guild members on your Android phone.
GameString, the company that is bringing gaming in the ‘Cloud’ technology to any device that can access it. In our article yesterday regarding playing World of Warcraft on Android devices, GameString were responsible for this accomplishment. As a follow-up to that, we decided to write more about GameString so everyone is a bit more familiar with them.
We spoke too soon regarding MMORPGs and at the rate things are going, soon we will be able to play World of Warcraft on your Android phone. Oh wait..we can! Thanks to a tip in our comments from our previous post about applications to help you on your WoW journey, we know it is being worked on by some brave souls.
